"When I saw that Ukrainian identity, cultural, and architectural heritage were under attack by Russia, I couldn’t stand aside," he said. "For me, as an architect, the destruction of culture is a tragedy second only to the human toll. I decided to gather a team in Ukraine, and we began documenting the destruction of cultural and architectural heritage."
Duplantier’s team has already recorded data on over 1,500 architecturally significant buildings that have been destroyed, as well as thousands of other damaged structures. The French architect is developing recovery plans for cities like Mykolaiv, Izium, Nizhyn, and others. Preserving Ukrainian identity and history is especially important to him.
Duplantier’s work in Ukraine is entirely volunteer-based. "Ukrainian history and heritage are very significant. All of this needs protection," he stated. However, his current volunteer team in Ukraine requires additional expertise, particularly in engineering and management consulting, to continue the effort.
